After Utah’s Buyout, Russell Westbrook Intends to Join the Los Angeles Clippers
Russell Westbrook doesn’t appear to be leaving anything in Los Angeles besides his former team.
The nine-time All-Star guard intends to sign with the LA Clippers after the Utah Jazz buy him out, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Westbrook was dealt by the Lakers to the Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves in a three-team deal a day before the NBA trade deadline, leading many to wonder where the 34-year-old would end up. We have a solution now, almost two weeks later.
Russ will be reuniting with PG, much to the delight of Paul George, who has been pleading for his friend to join his team for more than a week. This comes as the veteran-heavy Clippers prepare to make a strong run at the NBA Playoffs.
It’s yet to be seen what role Westbrook will play with this particular LA group, but Ty Lue tends to work his best with older, more seasoned players to find a niche. Despite how he appears on the outside, Russ is regarded as a true teammate and professional by many in the league.
The Clippers will be Westbrook’s third team in five years once everything is finalized. He comes in averaging a career-low 15.9 points a night as a sixth man with the Lakers, but is still dishing out 7.5 assists, pulling down 6.2 rebounds and nabbing a steal per contest.
