Raptors Prevail over the Knicks in Overtime After Barrett’s Tying Dunk
The Toronto Raptors defeated the New York Knicks 123-121 on Monday thanks to Fred VanVleet’s 33 points, Scottie Barnes’ 26 points, and a comeback in overtime following RJ Barrett’s game-tying dunk with 0.6 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Raptors’ Pascal Siakam had 20 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds, but he fouled out and was forced to sit on the bench as Toronto had to wait for Jalen Brunson to miss a 3-point attempt in the closing seconds before winning.
O.G. Anunoby made two 3-pointers in overtime to help Toronto build a six-point lead, but New York came close to taking it away in the waning seconds.
The Knicks’ three-game winning streak was snapped thanks to 32 points from Barrett, a Toronto native, and 26 points from Brunson. A total of 21 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 assists were recorded by Julius Randle.
With 5 1/2 minutes left in regulation, the Knicks led 101-92 before Toronto came back with a 12-3 run, which was capped by five straight points from VanVleet to tie the score at 104 with 1:30 left.
With 12 seconds left, Barnes made two free throws to give his team a 109-108 lead. However, when he only made one with 6.6 seconds left, Barrett went all the way up the middle of the court and no Raptors intervened to stop him before his dunk tied the score at 110.
Before Siakam, who had a career-high 52 points in Toronto’s victory here last month, completed a three-point play to make it 121-115 with 1:23 left in the extra frame, Anunoby had made a few threes in the opening minutes of the extra time.
